Dear Editor,
In an early year of his first term in office, President Ali went countrywide with NIS staff, and demonstrated his intention to get all NIS outstanding claims sorted out by December of that year, yet some very ill claimants are still waiting to receive their benefits.
What are the reason/s for the failure to deliver the President’s promise? Are there no solutions to overcome the continuing non-settlements? Is the efficiency monitoring mechanism itself not efficient? Is it that NIS staff are not true to their oath to serve the people?
Also, now that NIS advised the pensioners to go to court to get monies owed to them, the signal is that NIS seems not to be on the side of the people.
Instead of Mr. Christopher Ram and significant others having to go to court, Executive President Ali should take steps to ensure that all decisions and regulations are complied with and that claimants promptly get what is legally due to them.
Conscientious service to the people must be the only option for every Public Service worker.
Sincerely,
Faiyaz Alli
