Kaieteur Sports – The Rupununi Football Association Academy staged an impressive comeback in the recent Guyana Football Federation/NAMILCO Thunder Boult Flour Power Under-17 football league playoff match, defeating West Demerara FA Academy 4-3 at the National Training Centre in Providence.
Despite falling behind 1-3 early in the game, the Rupununi side showed remarkable resilience. Adrian Cabral opened the scoring for Rupununi with a brilliant strike in the 3rd minute, and just 29 minutes later, West Demerara’s Shakeel King netted his first goal of the match in the 32nd minute. King found the back of the net again in the 40th minute, extending West Demerara’s lead. Jeremiah Humphrey added another goal for West Demerara in the 41st minute, taking his team to 3-1.
However, Rupununi demonstrated great determination in the second half, scoring three sensational goals to secure a 4-3 victory. Guy Moses (59′), Romel Earnest (68′), and Andre Farias (72′) were the heroes who contributed to this remarkable comeback.
In another exciting match, East Bank FA Academy also achieved a convincing 4-1 victory over Georgetown FA Academy. East Bank FA Academy’s goal scorers were Albert Adams (3′), Ian Daniels (7′), Solomon Austin (16′), and Antwone Denny (43′). Georgetown FA Academy’s Jerry Burnett managed to score in the 38th minute, but it wasn’t enough to alter the outcome of the game.
