Blame it on de rain

Kaieteur News – When it comes to being on time, some people simply cannot make the cut. No matter what the occasion, they are bound to be late. Some churches have even had to impose penalties for not turning up on time for weddings.

Imagine having the bride waiting at the altar while you are busying trying to be put on your suit. Or it is the other way around: with the groom having to wait on the bride?

People, especially in de government, does be late for work. You could dial any government office at 8:00 hrs. and ask for some of de bosses. See how many of them are in as yet.

One boss however solved de problem of his workers coming to work late. He had 30 employees but only 29 free parking slots. The 30^th was paid parking. But deh gat one thing Guyanese are never late for. When dem gat to go in to de US Embassy for dem visa, dem does never late. In fact, some of them does reach de embassy gate before de guards.

When it comes to visa applications, Guyanese does be at de consulate’s doorstep at the crack of dawn, armed with a meticulously organized folder containing every piece of paper they’ve ever owned since kindergarten. There’s no snooze button for visa appointments; they’re ready to face bureaucracy with military precision. But when it comes to work and school, well lateness is like a fashion show. And when it comes to excuse, deh gat plenty readymade ones. If is not de traffic, is some problem with de vehicle. And if is not de transportation is some problem elsewhere. Even de rain wah nah falling dese days getting blame fuh lateness.
