Dear Editor,
I am a simple man, but could you help me because reading the news in the independent media is sending up my blood pressure.
A man is jailed for 16 months for stealing a ram sheep, a man is hauled before the Court for, they say, urinating at night in a secluded spot but our law enforcement agencies can’t catch what to most of us is massive corruption and nonsense. The contractor is building substandard homes in the young professional scheme on the East Bank of Demerara, but this is not new. To the best of my knowledge, it will be business as usual because he, like so many friends and supporters of the ruling party, is now beyond the reach of the law. Nothing new.
I remember when President Ali was the Minister of Housing, houses all with red roofs suffered the same defects that are happening today. Some could not be occupied; leaking roofs, front steps moving away from the rest of the house and so forth. At one time after the Government changed in 2015, the CHPA spent millions correcting these bad works. The new Government after August 2020 ignored all efforts to have these contractors rectify bad work, or pay for the correction done. Forget the never-done airport and daily complaints that all these roads, bridges and buildings being constructed are faulty. Who are the folks getting the big bucks?
The PPP has the gall to go to Parliament to obtain billions to continue this rape of our country. The Holy Books tell us “Thou shalt not steal.” In Guyana when the big ones steal, nothing ever happens to them but the prison is overflowing with young men who snatch a chain or steal a bicycle. When will justice come to Guyana?
Yours truly,
Eric (Mutt) Moseley, MS
