Kaieteur News – De traffic congestion associated with the Demerara Harbour Bridge used to be a plaster fuh every sore. It used to be the excuse for any and everything. If somebody reach to work late, de person used to claim dat he or she get caught up in traffic.

If dem reach extra late, is because of an unscheduled bridge opening. And dem boys used to go and tek a drink after work and when dem wife ask why dem come home so late. Well you guessed it! Dem boys used to claim dem did get stuck in traffic.’

Now all dem excuses gone through de door. Since de bridge closed fuh a couple of days, all dem excuses vanish like smoke in de breeze..

De moment dem bridge close, dem same people who used to bawl ’bout de traffic find demself gettin’ home in record time. Dem boys seh it like magic, like if dem problems disappear with de bridge.

Now, instead of hustlin’ and bustlin’ ’round fuh an excuse, dem hustlin’ and bustlin’ ’round fuh a new story. Dem boys hear all kinda tings now. One man seh he reach home so early, he wife suspect he get a li’l side job! Anodda woman claim she get home so quick, she husband start questioning why she used to be so later before.

But yuh see, dis situation teach we one valuable lesson – sometimes we quick fuh point fingers and blame others fuh our shortcomings. Instead of accepting responsibility, we try fuh find a scapegoat, and de poor old bridge bin one of dem.

So, as de bridge undergoes dem repairs stop shifting de blame and start being truthful to ourselves and others. And who knows, maybe when de bridge reopen, dem latecomers might just find demself a new level of punctuality too!
