Kaieteur Sports – The Men’s Under 19 Rugby team that will be representing Guyana in the upcoming Rugby America’s North (RAN) championship has received their team uniforms from ANSA McAL (Guyana) Limited, their longstanding sponsors. The ceremony took place at ANSA McAL’s Triumph- location on Friday.
This generous gesture highlights ANSA McAL’s commitment to supporting community development through sports, as they equip the young players with championship jerseys for their participation in the 2023 RAN championship at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus in Kingston from July 12th to 16th.
Looking ahead, the team is expected to depart Guyana to compete in the 2023 Ran championship in Jamaica on the 10th July, ahead of the commencement of the tournament on Wednesday.
The squad selected for the tournament consists of twenty-three members, with Elisha Crawford being the sole survivor from the Guyana team that participated in the RAN tournament as a 16-year-old in 2019, just before the Covid-19 pandemic halted all sports activities in Guyana. Guyana has been placed in a group with the host country, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Importantly, this will be Guyana’s first participation in the event since 2019, as they were unable to compete last year due to a lack of funds. The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) expresses sincere gratitude to their sponsors for providing The Greens (Guyana’s team) with the opportunity to compete in this year’s championship.
The GRFU has received support from various prominent business entities, including the Guyana Olympic Association, the National Sports Commission, S&L Electrical Agency, Massy Gas Product, Modern Optical, P&P Insurance Brokers, ANSA McAl, Cummings Electrical, NAMILCO, Vish’s Pharmacy, Wilfred Neblette (NY), and Freddy Fish Shop, among others.
