Kaieteur Sports – The pre Central Americas and Caribbean (CAC) training camp in Guyana has entered its final phase, as four Barbadian boxers join their counterparts in an intense preparation programme. Spearheaded by Guyana’s Three Star coaches Terrance Poole and Sebert Blake, along with Lennox Daniels and Cuban coach Francisco Roldan, the ten-day training camp commenced on Monday, 5th June at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Boxing Gym in Albouystown. This valuable undertaking allows local boxers to enhance their skills and readiness for the upcoming CAC games.
Barbados has sent a team of four pugilists to Guyana to participate in this rigorous training camp. The team consists of Kimberly Gittens, Charles Cox, Jusean Shepherd, and Tyreec Taitt. Notably, Gittens, Cox, and Taitt hold impressive rankings of 10th, 19th, and 36th respectively in their respective weight classes. This remarkable display of talent showcases the caliber of fighters engaging in the camp. Joining them are Guyana’s own AMBC bronze medalist Desmond Amsterdam, Olympian Keevin Allicock, and several other prominent local stars.

Local and Barbadian boxers including coaches pose for group photo at the Sixhead Boxing Gym Tuesday last.
Coach Poole expressed his satisfaction with the training progress, stating, “Training is going well. As you can see, the Barbadian boxers are here in Guyana for their final preparations ahead of the CAC games, which is beneficial for both their team and Guyana. Our local boxers will receive high-quality sparring sessions, which were one of the primary objectives of this training camp.”
He further elaborated, “Locally, we don’t often get the chance to spar with top-level boxers, so having the overseas boxers here will undoubtedly be a boost for our local athletes. The opportunity to step into the ring with skilled fighters is invaluable.”
The training camp has created an environment of intense focus and dedication, enabling the boxers to fine-tune their techniques, improve their stamina, and sharpen their strategies. With the conclusion of the training camp drawing near, the Barbadian boxers, along with their Guyanese counterparts, are poised to showcase their enhanced skills and preparedness at the highly anticipated CAC games.
