Dec 30, 2022 Letters
Dear Editor,
Kindly allow me some space in your newspaper for this letter. I am writing this letter to bring to the attention of the President of this country and his Finance Minister an injustice and discrimination that is being perpetuated on the junior and senior staff pensioners of GuySuCo. These pensioners for over ten years now have not received any increase in their pension from the STEPS pension scheme, whilst all other pensioners in this country have been getting increase in their pensions over the years. Let me give an example, this year government announced an 8% increase in pension for all government pensioners in this country and the GAWU pensioners in GuySuCo also received an 8% increase, yet the junior and senior staff pensioners of GuySuCo received 0% increase. And this has been going on in GuySuCo as I said for over ten years now. Whenever the GAWU workers receive an increase in their salaries, their pensioners receive the same amount and we receive nothing.
Mr. President, I know when you would have seen this letter and asked what is going on, you would be told by GuySuCo that is a STEPS problem and STEPS should give us an increase, but over the years STEPS keep telling us that they are not in a position to give us any increase, so I am appealing to you sir, please use your position as President of this country to get someone to give us an 8% increase, so that we can also be in a position to combat the high cost of living that is killing all of us. After all, it has been over ten years now that we have not received any increase. You being the compassionate President we know you are, I know you will not disappoint the junior and senior staff pensioners of GuySuCo. Hoping to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Imtiaz Baccus.
