Dear Editor,
Permit me to air my opinion on the announcement of the 8% increase for public servants 2022.
The increase for me is a welcomed one. It takes away a few expenses for me and my family which allows room for extra savings. Based on the views on social media the populace seems divided whether they support the government or not.
Unfortunately, some of the lot that are crying out that the increase is of no significance are some of the same that are always at an event of some sort, do not get me wrong everyone has the right to live how they please and seem fit. At the same time, we live in a time where anything is possible, (remember the lockdown during COVID-19?) and we must be mature in our spending to save for a rainy day.
There was a time when I could not afford the luxurious things in life, but I made do with what I could have afforded. Additionally, people will speak about the oil fund and ask why we could not get more, but trust the process the Government continues to invest in its people in one way or another. In closing I say thank you GoG for bringing this increase if others aren’t grateful at least I am, and it will make a difference for me!
Sincerely,
Tanya Mohabir
