The tournament which commenced its ninth edition Saturday last was not short of intriguing football being played. However, a few teams were not fully prepared and suffered walk over losses while a few had their matches rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances.
Following the release of the second round of matches, the organizer disclosed that it was an excellent opening day for the return of the event that has yielded a significant amount of National footballers in this new era of the fraternity.
Director of Petra, Troy Mendonca said, “I think it was a marvelous start to the tournament. I’m very certain we at Petra were as excited as the hundreds of students and parents that came out to be a part of this very important tournament.”
“We saw some players who were very excited to display their talents and play among friends, and we also some of the most eager supporters, the parents, cheering every second of the way,” he added.
“Additionally, Courts has added a bunch of value to this event as they have always done and we must highly commend them for staying with us through the years.”
When questioned about the state of the ground, the Director disclosed that they are confident the playing area will be unaffected by the recent torrential rain.
“A lot of work has been done to the ground before the return of our tournaments, during and after also. Since the Ministry of Education Ground has become the home of our tournaments, it was only fitting that great strides be made to get it to a very acceptable level.”
“So, I’m certain the ground will be in good condition for the remainder of the tournament and for events to come,” Medonca opined.
