Guyanese need to move past the past
Dear Editor,
The PPP/C Government of Guyana is being accused of discrimination in favouring its supporters (mainly Indo Guyanese) again.
It is no secret that pre-1992, PNC supporters (mainly Afro Guyanese) went into politics for their betterment favouring the party-card. Indo-Guyanese went into economics for their betterment.
When the Guyana Economy recovered after PNC devastation Indo-Guyanese benefited most because they were in businesses.
Afro-Guyanese seems to have a fear of being subjugated which some have managed to overcome. Indo-Guyanese does not want the PNC to rule over them. I suspect that it has nothing to do with the PNC being Afrocentric but rather because of the devastation caused by the PNC.
Somehow, both Afro-Guyanese and Indo-Guyanese need to move past the past. I remember the past; I don’t live in it.
I suggest looking at ways we can work together for mutual benefits.
