Sep 13, 2022 Letters
Dear Editor,
Following an unfactual article printed and circulated on Monday, September 12, 2022, in a section of the local press by Mr. Freddie Kissoon on the award of the Rodney Chair, the University of Guyana wishes to state categorically that the Rodney Chair has not been awarded to anyone.
In fact, the Chair has not been awarded for over 6 years due to a lack of funding. The University has referred the offending article to its legal team since it is the third such unfactual publication about the University by the same author in three months and seems to be following an intentionally malicious and defamatory pattern.
The University’s Public Relations team and the Department of the Events, Conferences and Communication (DECC) are easily accessible for fact checks. Therefore, such grossly misleading publications are avoidable.
The University once again urges the responsible and ethical practice of journalism especially amongst those of long standing in the best interest of all.
Ms. Krest Cummings
Public Relations Officer
