Investigate GECOM thoroughly and the events pre-and-post-2020 Elections

Dear Editor,
GECOM continues to be the most expensive failure of Guyana and, two years after the disgraceful March 2020 Elections, the President seems to need a reminder of a promise made before swearing-in and during his inaugural speech, that is, to investigate GECOM thoroughly and the events pre-and-post-2020 Elections.
Editor, prosecuting Lowenfield, Mingo et al., is not enough. Why has there been no Independent Inquiry into GECOM and the 8-billion-dollars fraud that manifested as the 2020 Elections? Why is there no Commission of Inquiry?
Why is the Government silent of Amna Ally’s ID-card accusation of Nandlall? Or Norton’s public testimony of “a woman” who (he claimed) voted twice. Or worse yet, the immigration officers who sent a supposedly fraudulent list of persons allegedly out of the country but whose votes were recorded? Or the disastrous recount that brought more disgrace on this land? Or of the manipulation of the report of SOPs at GECOM? Or of the dangerous statements from many persons on the floor, balcony and offices of GECOM’s headquarters? The list is too long to represent here. But one cannot forget that followers of APNU/PNC feel that PPP operatives stuffed the ballot boxes. These accusations, wild or not, cannot be taken lightly for there were genuine efforts to derail those elections. Truth must start to matter to us in this country.
Editor, Why are Guyanese forced to suffer a false presumption that ridding us of Lowenfield and Mingo will be the miracle cure? How can we expect the same GECOM, with its reluctant head, and the same commissioners who held this country at ransom for five months to continue believing that they live in a mythical land that requires no accountability for their intemperate statements and biased but dangerous political and personal agendas?
Is it that the PPP and APNU/PNC, who are the beneficiaries of those fraudulent elections machinations are now happy in office and parliament until the next fraud is imposed upon us? Let us remember that taxpayers’ monies were abused to perpetuate the gravest fraud, which threatened to remove our constitutional right to our votes.
Editor, racism, violence and death reared their ugly heads – and yet we continue to be silent, creating a contrivance for the beneficiaries of fraud! Who will take the blame for the slain son, the nurse whose car was damaged, the hundreds who were trampled, beaten, pelted etc.? Or the accusation of a bus with children that were abused? When are we going to deal with the accusations that led to mayhem? Or are we now a nation that will allow the perpetrators to get ready for a repeat in 2025?
Until that time when an independent commission of inquiry into GECOM is completed, the death, injury, racism, rape, fraud, financial loss and the disgrace that Guyana faced during the 2020 elections lies solely on the shoulders of Ali and his Government – it is they who now have the mandate to investigate and ensure an independent inquiry and review.
The slick of oil and the sparkle of oil wealth must not blind us from ensuring democratic progress. We hereby call for an independent Commission of Inquiry into the 2020 Elections and GECOM.
