GSA names four for CAC Games in Guatemala

Kaieteur News- The Guyana Squash Association (GSA) continues to forge ahead with their calendar of events that features the hosting and attending of local and international events.
Locally, the annual Bounty Farm Handicap Tournament has already been recorded in the books along with the BCQS Masters Squash Tournament. Up next is the Senior National Championship which is scheduled to commence on Thursday, March 17.

The qualifying rounds of the Senior Championship commences on March 11 at the home of squash, at the Georgetown Club.
Meanwhile, four of the usual suspects have already qualified for Guyana’s team for the upcoming Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games to be held in Guatemala.
Alex Arjoon, Kristian Jeffery, Sam Ince and Jason Khalil have been named while a fifth player will have the chance to make the cut.
On Wednesday evening, the battle for the final spot on Guyana’s team began and that will be filled when the matches between the top tier local seniors are completed this evening.
It is understood that the four who have been selected have been performing quite well in the GSA Squash League that has kept the local players active and in form.
Sadly, the traditional way of selecting a team, through the local Senior National Championships, has been abandoned due to the eruption the pandemic has cost.
GSA was recently asked by the CAC Games Organising Committee to submit a team of players for the event which is scheduled for April 3 – 9. Those names were already submitted by the GSA and rectified by the committee, but the GSA has room for one more.
Chairman of the Competitions Committee, Deje Dias has stated that the competitors are quite annoyed that they will not be sticking to the traditional way of selecting the team, but the Squash League has given the competitive bunch an avenue to always be in line for selection.
