– David Rose Special needs school, Dharm Shala among beneficiaries
Kaieteur News – Six charitable organisations were treated to an early Christmas compliments of Ram and McRae Chartered Accountants and Professional Services firm.
The firm, according to a release, contributed a total of $1.5M to the organizations. Among the beneficiaries are the Uncle Eddie’s Home, the Dharm Shala, the Beacon Foundation, the David Rose Special Needs School, the Red Cross Children’s Convalescent Home and the Missionaries of Charity of New Amsterdam.
Each of them received a cheque for a sum of $250,000 on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 which is likely to go towards the furtherance of their respective operations.
The simple handing over ceremony took place at the offices of Ram and McRae, Waterloo Street, Georgetown. There, the Managing Partner of the firm, Christopher Ram expressed how happy he was to be a part of such an impactful gesture. He went on to tell the recipients, “we applaud the work you are doing and we want you to do more (hence the donation). We hope that society will recognise your work and [on behalf of all of us here] we wish you all the best for the season and the New Year.”
He hinted that the Ram and McRae firm foresees much more gestures like this in the future, building on a practice that has been ongoing for years. There is also the intent to target more local charities.
One of the representatives receiving the donations, Pastor Gary Erskine of the Dharm Shala, explained how these donations would aid the functions of these organisations. He detailed that the Dharm Shala caters to those who have been rejected by society and even by their own relatives as a result of their mental illness, economic incapacity and even special needs.
“The Dharma Shala has been in existence for over 100 years. It’s a private home and it is run as a charitable home and we take in the very poor without proper documentation, without birth certificate or ID but as long as they come to our gate we receive them so we trust the father (God) that this donation goes a far way,” he said.
The other representatives briefly stated that this donation can be considered a blessing to their organisations as it will alleviate some of the needs that currently exist with the Christmas holidays quickly approaching.
