Canada-based Guyanese Fazil Rasool snared three wickets for eight runs to inspire United Cricket Club to the 2021 Ontario Masters Softball Cricket Clubs (OMSCC) Second Division over-40, 20-overs championship on Sunday at Ashtonbee Park, Scarborough, Toronto.
Rasool delivered three overs to help restrict Seatown’s men who only managed an inadequate 124-5 from the 20-overs. United in reply, safely and gleefully reached 125-5 off 16.5 overs.
Supporting the unplayable Rasool were Jano Panday and Arjune Persaud with one wicket each.
Geenarine Ram top-scored for Seatown with 36, while Jaydeo Singh contributed 19 and 17 apiece from Lalta Narine and Narendra Buchanana.
When United Cricket Club batted, the inform opener Ganesh Ramraj hit an impressive 43 laced with three sixes and two fours. Navin Misir, another overseas-based Guyanese struck 30. Monty Dass and Kumar Singh offered a fight with one wicket each.
At the post-match presentation ceremony, Rasool was named the Most Valuable Player and he took home a trophy. His team collected a trophy with 15 medals.
President of the OMSCC Paul Jaman congratulated the championship combination and thanked the teams for their participation. He made special mention to the sponsors and expressed his gratitude to the hundreds of spectators for witnessing the action.
