Kaieteur News – As some of us may know, online shopping and delivery services have been around for years but in recent times they have become especially popular mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today we can buy nearly anything online without the need to leave our home.
One individual whose mission is to provide these services to Guyanese at affordable rates is Michael Bailey, the owner of B’s Shipping and Couriers. Bailey who hails from Lamaha Springs, Georgetown, is currently a third-year student at the University of Guyana pursing his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
The 19-year-old in an interview with Kaieteur News revealed that it was his family who inspired him to go into business in the first place since they too own businesses of their own.
But what prompted him to choose this field in business? He related “I chose to take the route of online shopping and delivery because day by day more persons are using different stores online to get their goods, and as someone that also shops online, I know that a lot of these companies in Guyana have prices that are far higher than optimal when it comes to Guyana’s economy. I looked at different companies, compared rates and knew I could provide these services for less of a price.”
Bailey who launched his business venture last year November said that his only goal in mind moving forward is to provide online shopping and delivery services to locals at feasible rates.
His intention to provide feasible services for Guyanese, is already heading down a good path due to the fact that his support base has been growing, thanks to the testimonials of persons who have been utilising his business since it was launched. “In my mind, once persons can stick with my services like that, it makes me believe I’m taking a step in the right direction,” the young man added.
But this has not been challenge free. He spoke of being faced with the challenge of balancing the management of his business while pursuing his studies. He made mention too that at the start of it all, it was rough since not many people were placing orders as compared to these days. But he was not fazed. Instead, he reminded himself that nothing starts at a 100 percent. “You need to push as hard as you can to reach that mark.”
Bailey is of the firm belief that young entrepreneurs have a substantial role in today’s society. “I think young entrepreneurs are playing a large role in society…as of recent more people are coming up with ideas due to the pandemic, great ideas at that too. And with social media becoming more influential than ever, it’s giving young entrepreneurs a platform to voice their initiative,” he added.
In this regard, he calls for partnerships among business owners, whether small or large, in order to help boost each other’s businesses.
Those desirous of utilising Bailey’s service can take advantage of his affordable rates by contacting him via WhatsApp on (592) 645-6216, Facebook @ B’s Shipping and Couriers or email bshipping.c@gmail.com.
