Dear Editor,
At first impression one would readily jump to the conclusion that the Chairwoman was a co-conspirator in this whole election rigging fracas. Yes, with her seemingly laid back style of taking ages to come to a decision on any matter and failure to act in others, I would have been tempted to say that she was integral to the election rigging and should be punished for her inaction, but is she? And this is the million dollar question – is she as guilty as we are making her out to be?
Well, for starters, if the Chairwoman had not acted the way she did we would never have come to the realization that there were members planted there to carry out the wishes of a party and not there to do the work of the commission. We would have been to this day in the dark of the personalities involved as well as their diabolical plot. And if I should add, that rigging cabal would still be intact, well and able to come up with another strategy to derail the electoral process in our country.
Now that we are apprised of the goings on in their nefarious minds, we can effectively deal with them – I am talking about their prosecution and removal – then and only then can we safely navigate into the future. As the lyrics in the song by Jimmy Cliff states “I can see clearly now the rain is gone, I can see all obstacles in my way.” We are now in the zone of putting away the rigging party while at the same time moving this country forward, free from the last vestiges of rigging and destabilization.
Make no mistake, had it not been for the tardiness of the chairwoman, the scope and extent of this rigging apparatus would not have come to light, as we would say in Guyanese Creole “she gave them enough rope to hang themselves.” All those in the rigging fraternity would have to account for their actions and dire will be the consequences. In hindsight I would say again, I am glad that Madam Chairwoman acted the way she did, so that this ghost of Burnham can finally be put to rest.
Yours truly,
Neil Adams
