Kaieteur News – The Rotary Club of Georgetown Central (RCGC) on Saturday, December 12, 2020, commenced its second annual Hampers for the Holidays Distribution Project geared to support and spread cheers to households within vulnerable communities and non-governmental groups.
In a release, it said, “This year, with the invaluable support of sponsors, RCGC managed to prepare and distribute 230 hampers filled with grocery and other items to families of three communities and two NGOs.”
The hampers, it revealed, also included facemasks and fanny packs provided by GTT.
Communities benefiting from this hamper distribution project were the Grove River Dam Community, which are primarily Venezuelan Migrants, the South Sophia Community, and the Kimbia, Berbice River Community.
Meanwhile, 20 families of the Ruimveldt Children Home and 30 teenage mothers will also benefit from hampers during this week.
Last year 100 families of the Plastic City, West Coast Demerara community benefited from the RCGC Hampers for Holidays Project.
Over the last few weeks, Rotary Georgetown Central worked closely with Mattai’s Supermarket, which is also a leading contributor this year, to assemble the hampers. Other sponsors of this year’s Hampers for the Holidays Project are Eureka Medical Laboratories, Metro Office Supplies, Chung Global Enterprise, A&S Construction, KP Thomas, 360 Construction, Romel Jagroop Construction and JR Ranch Inc.
“Rotary Club of Georgetown Central, communities and groups, which have benefited extend special thanks to each of these sponsors,” the release added.
As a club, Rotary Georgetown Central noted that it continues to put “Service Above Self” despite the prevailing pandemic, to provide relief to vulnerable groups and to execute other community projects.
