Police are investigating an alleged wounding committed on Marcos Richmond, age 20, a policeman of Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara. It was disclosed that the incident occurred Thursday at about 19:40hrs on Quamina Street, Beterverwagting. A 35-year-old suspect is currently under arrest.
According to police, the Police Constable was walking along the road on his way home from work when he saw the suspect and another male in an altercation. The constable said he approached them in a bid to keep the peace.
However the suspect became annoyed and told the policeman that the altercation is none of his concern. The constable then left for his home. According to the police statement, the suspect subsequently armed himself with a knife, approached the constable from behind and dealt him two stab wounds- to his lower back and the back of his neck.
He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation by a family member and was admitted in a serious but stable condition. The suspect was later arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
