If the people change, the leaders will follow suit

Guyana is going through a political crisis. The credible Recount has established that the People Progressive Party won the March 2, 2020 Regional and General Elections. Guyana has always had a fragile democracy. In November 2014 Former President, Donald Ramotar, suspended parliament to avoid a vote of no confidence. In 2015, the UK Government threatened sanction over prorogued parliament and demanded local government elections. Ramotar later dissolved parliament and set the election date for May 11, 2015.

I bring this up to show that politicians in Guyana are Machiavellian which means they operate on the principle that the ends justify the means. In my opinion, it is up to the people of Guyana to say and demonstrate loudly that Guyana believes and operates on democratic principles and laws. Based on probability, when the opposition gets in power they will also be Machiavellian, therefore the change must come from the people. The leaders are a reflection of the people; if the people change, the leaders will follow suit if they want to enjoy the privileges of power. The call for change must not only come from PPP but from all Guyanese. When the PPP messes up, all Guyanese must put them in check.
