Three doctors stationed at the Mabaruma Regional Hospital are now homeless after the house they were residing in went up in flames. The fire occurred at around 11:00 hours on Monday morning and is suspected to be caused by an electrical malfunction.

The building, which is rented by the Ministry of Public Health, was being occupied by three Cuban doctors who were on duty at the time of the fire. .
Tellisa King, a resident of Mabaruma, informed Kaieteur News that there was not much that could have been done to save the building since the fire quickly spread through the wooden structure. She added that many public spirited citizens turned out to lend assistance, however due to the unavailability of resources, they had to watch on helplessly as the fire completely destroyed the building.
Meanwhile, the nearly completed Mabaruma Fire Station is currently being used as a quarantine facility. Fire Chief of the Mabaruma sub-region, Orin Stanley noted that an investigation is being conducted to rule out other possible causes.
