DEAR EDITOR,
May 5, 1995 – one of the darkest days in Guyana’s history! The day our then Parliament passed the damnable Termination of Pregnancy Bill into law, enabling the murder of the most vulnerable citizens of our nation – our unborn babies! And all in the Unlikely and Spurious Name of Women’s Reproductive Rights!.
That day, a portal of death was opened in the Spirit world and the doors were opened to Murder and Suicide. Indeed, our Beloved nation became infamous as being the Suicide Capital of the world.
We have since experienced much bloodshed, even massacres and of course Abortion on Demand concomitant with physical and psychological morbidity and even the death of mothers. And this in a nation with a negative growth rate!
Our national psyche has lost to a great extent, respect for the Sanctity of Human Life. The horrific and heinous murders, even beheadings, men killing wives/ partners, then committing suicide, children killing each other , their parents and even, themselves, friends killing each other after imbibing and the wanton road carnage, all attest to this.
The Church spoke out vociferously, warning the government and nation of the curse that legalizing Abortion brings, but to no avail! To this day some politicians and other perpetrators that brought ungodly counsel to execute this evil, boast of the great “privilege” and “liberty” they gave to women, the right to murder their own unborn offspring!!!
God’s “Woe” still targets those that decree unrighteous decrees…
Should we then wonder at God’s divine displeasure and judgement? He has commanded “Thou shalt not murder”. It is written “God hates hands that shed innocent blood” and “The voice of your (children’s) blood cry unto me for justice”. Guyana has received much warning through God”s prophets concerning our bloodguiltiness.
Shouldn’t we rather mourn and lament and invoke Almighty God’s mercy and forgiveness and REVOKE the Abortion Law??
Today; Guyana is positioned either for tremendous blessing or to go down in history as a failed state, a land of awesome potential that never really got off the ground.
May we make the choice to turn back to the True and Living God and to cry out for forgiveness in Jesus’ Name and through His Blood for putting our unborn to the sword. May we choose righteousness that exalts a nation, rather than sin that brings reproach. After living for 25 years in a culture of Death, may we choose LIFE for our children and our beloved but beleaguered nation.
Faithfully,
In Jesus’ Service
Bernice Walcott
