DEAR EDITOR,
I have, since the first case, looked at the statics released by the government on the COVID-19. What the record shows is that our curve may be declining.
We are now at week eight whence the first reported case. What the numbers show is that weeks 4 and 5 we had reported cases of 18 and 20 respectively. Weeks 6, 7 and 8 show the curve coming down.
week New cases Total Deaths total
MAR 12 – 18 1 5 5 1 1
MAR 19 – 25 2 0 5 0 1
MAR 26-AP 1 3 14 19 2 3
AP 2-AP 8 4 18 37 3 6
AP 9 – AP15 5 20 57 0 6
AP 16 – AP22 6 10 67 1 7
AP 23 – AP 29 7 11 78 2 9
AP30 – MAY 8 4 82 9
What we have been told is that for the second month we saw a 110% increase. This is statistically correct, however, what is needed is a daily and weekly tracking and these graphs be released. When one follows the COVID-19 around world, in democratic countries, records and analysis, are readily given. Singapore, South Korea credit their effectiveness to the provision of information. The worse hit country, USA, you receive daily updates and analysis.
What we had was the caretaker Minister using aggregate numbers for the first two months and then launching into a rebuke of people.
We are told where the hot spots are, what we need to know are the numbers across all areas of incidence in the city and country.
The lockdown is extended without any analysis and information of the fact based considerations and timeline for the way forward. The Big Question is Why?
