Honesty, integrity and decency?

DEAR EDITOR,

It is now 42 days since we held our general and regional elections where eligible voters exercised their right to choose a new Government for Guyana. We are still without a legitimate Government, and many young people are all awaiting the end (if there will be an end) to the nightmare that GECOM has brought upon us.
Yesterday the commissioners along with Madam Chair met, the update (provided by Mr. Sase Gunraj via social media):
1. Meeting adjourned to tomorrow at 10:30am.
2. No revised plan was supplied by Secretariat. One is expected before the meeting
tomorrow (today).
3. A site visit to Arthur Chung Conference Centre is expected as soon as possible.
I would like to acknowledge the hard work and efforts the opposition commissioners have done so far and I am sure will continue to do until the recount is done. However, the words, “honesty, integrity and decency” continue to be three resounding words and probably will be etched into my memory since I will always remember those words with relation to the 2020 general and regional elections campaign by the APNU-AFC. Since the 5th March 2020, this is when the nightmare began for all Guyanese who are still awaiting the results for region 4; there is nothing that has happened from that date that relates, describes or is synonymous to those three (3) words that the APNU-AFC campaigned throughout the length and breadth of dear Guyana.
Apart from that nightmare, we have a life-threatening virus amongst us, I have been writing and calling for more to be done concerning the COVID-19. I truly, hope that more initiatives be in place for all Guyanese. While tax exemptions are now in place for necessities, tax exemptions should also be effective for basic food items, as well as all sanitization/ cleaning items for at least 3 months, place a waiver (reduction) on utility bills as wells. Also adding to these measures, I hope would be in place, can we have assurance that those essential workers (not only health care workers) but those in the GPF, GDF, Guyana Fire Service, airport workers (those in the air control towers), our weather forecasters and our weather observers, have an incentive or an increase in their salaries. Our essential workers also have families whom are at risk once these workers head out to serve our nation.
It is my wish that GECOM can act swiftly, but I am afraid that this may not be the case since the trend is to delay and leave the nation in awe, with their distasteful maneuvers.
May we all be safe throughout this pandemic of COVID-19.
