Adams’ X1 reached 80-2 in rain affected day
Morning rain and late preparation resulted in yesterday’s three-day practice match between Leon Johnson’s XI and Anthony Adams’ XI at Providence being delayed by just over two sessions.
This was the first of two practice matches as five times defending Champions Guyana Jaguars began preparations for next year’s Regional First-Class season which commences on January 9.
When play eventually commenced at 15:30hrs in bright sunshine Adams XI reached 80-2 from 28 overs when the day ended at 17:30hrs with Tevin Imlach unbeaten on 23 and night watchman, pacer Nial Smith on five.
Imlach got going in front of empty stands with a delicate glance to the fine leg boundary off Chris Barnwell before Raymond Perez cut Keon Joesph behind point for four on the heavy outfield.
The right-handed Perez then stroked Joesph elegantly through extra cover for a boundary as the batsmen started solidly on a slow track despite a generous amount of grass on the surface.
Left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul was introduced in the seventh over and Perez danced into him and on-drove him for four as conditions again became overcast.
But with the score on 47, Perez, who reached the boundary three times in his 25, edged leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo to the Keeper Anthony Bramble, the leading Keeper in this year’s tournament.
The solid Kemol Savory demonstrated rare aggression and lofted West Indies Emerging Players’ off-spinner Kevin Sinclair over mid-off for four before sweeping Bishoo behind square for his second boundary.
But the 34-year-old Bishoo, who has taken 117 Test wickets and 382 scalps from 100 First-Class matches, had the last laugh when he removed Savory for 18 at 74-2. Imlach and Smith were together when bails were lifted in fading light.
Today is the second day and the action is set to start at 09:00hrs. (Sean Devers)
