DEAR EDITOR,
Permit us, to express gratitude where it’s due. For those who may not be aware, GPL Inc. is known as a Semi-autonomous Company, the Government does not pay the employees nor do GPL monies enter the public treasury. Further, the Company is represented by two unions, for which the National Agricultural Commercial Clerical and Industrial Employees union is one of them.
NACCIE – works for the largest portion of the employment pie. The Junior levels staffers – from Grades 1-7.
NACCIE sat down with the Company’s negotiators – Management, to discuss wages and salaries and fringes for the year 2019. It was quite a dubious process which resulted in weeks of prolonged anxiety by the staffers who were perplex and perturbed as to why the firing and reinstatement of two senior officers had to impede the progression of the negotiations. However, we were made aware that at the height of the last sitting of the teams, management rejected the union’s offer and counter proposed a 3.5% increase and 3% in-scale – mind you, this in-scale should be a non-negotiable increase applied for yearly which was won by the union at an arbitration panel.
The union rejected and presented financials which purported that the company could pay better than 6.5%. Management negotiators then stated with much certainty that they can pay at most a total of 7.5% which is a 1% more than their previous offer, it was told to us further, that management, if they pay anything more, it would mean that the union is requesting blood and thus “twisting the arm of the Company.”
The union has always acceded to most of management’s offers because we believe there is some level of GOOD FAITH and some level of fiduciary responsibility between the two teams. Thus the union believes that what is considered at the tables of negotiation are only said and done with the purest of intentions- and not with any devious thoughts of short-changing or tricking one partner.
The latter, Editor, was the actions of the negotiators for management when they breached that good faith and fiduciary responsibility to enter into negotiations with the other union, GPSU, and paid 8.5% total to those category of employees who are senior to the ones aforementioned.
This ill-will however, did not – we presume, rest well with the CEO. Thus, the lower level of staff will get that additional 1% to equal what was paid, percentage wise to GPSU Category of employees.
Thank you CEO, for your intervention.
Regards,
Concerned Employees
