Boats, streetlights, new roads for Aroaima

The community of Aroaima, in Region Ten, Upper Demerara-Berbice, over the next few weeks will see more development, following commitments from Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman.

Among these is a boat to transport schoolchildren. Additionally, the community will have streetlights and floodlights, and the diversion of a central road in the area.
During a brief stop in the area on Sunday, Minister Trotman assured that the requests made by residents that could not be immediately met, would be addressed at the earliest possible time.
However, the appeal for a boat for schoolchildren was immediately answered by the Minister, who promised to have the transport ready for the community.
Residents had for some time been requesting that a central road in the community be positioned in another direction, making for a more trouble-free commute. Minister Trotman said that could easily be done at this time, utilising the services of the same contractor currently maintaining the Linden to Kwakwani road.

An appeal was also made for assistance to be given to aid the functioning of a private school at Hururu that is currently functioning at a “loss”.
Minister Trotman promised that the request would also be examined.
He reminded of the government’s commitment to equally provide every available service to all, regardless of political persuasion and personal preferences.
The logging community was also allotted concessions to the Berbice area, granted to the community under the last vacant list.
The Guyana Forestry Commission’s (GFC) Corporate Secretary, Attorney Jacey Archibald, said contracts are expected to be issued as early as the new week along with the demarcation process.
