Over the past week at the Stabroek Market Square, two unlicensed firearms, ammunition and narcotics were found during the ongoing police operations, which involved more than 60 ranks.
In excess of 100 persons were arrested and questioned in connection with a number of crimes. Furthermore, a number of them were charged with several offences.
Following a viral video on social media, which showed a young man snatching a cellular phone form an individual within the vicinity of Stabroek Market, the police were able to identify and charge a suspect.
The person in question was also charged jointly with two other persons and was remanded until November 29. These same persons were also wanted by police for questioning in relation to several robberies committed recently outside the Providence Stadium during CPL.
The Guyana Police Force will welcome all information and intelligence that can assist with successful operations as the Force values the public trust greatly, a statement said.
With the best interest of the public at heart the Guyana Police Force (GPF) is aiming to stop problems before they occur by reducing the opportunities for crime and by deterring people from involvement in criminal and anti-social behaviour. All digital content is welcomed to assist in prevention as well as prosecution.
One of the approaches of the GPF is to go out into communities and work with the youths to enable guidance in another direction, since most of them often may not realise how having a criminal record closes door and pushes them into a life of criminality.
These actions are facilitated by the Force’s social crime programmes and the support of the public is much needed to receive information required for preventing and solving issues surrounding crime.
