Lower Corentyne emerged champions of the CGI/SBF Petroleum Jaguar 50-over Franchise League following a 231-run win over Upper Corentyne in their final round game yesterday.
Batting first at Cumberland, Lower Corentyne piled up 366-9 with Adrian Sukwah stroking nine fours and five sixes in a top score of 98 while Junior Sinclair made 57 with seven fours.
The pair added 98 for the fifth wicket before Sinclair was lbw to Demitri Cameron while Sukwah was bowled by Quacy Burnett. Jason Sinclair made 56 including eight fours and one six, Niall Smith got 39, Garfield Benjamin 33 and Jonathan Foo 31.
Cameron claimed 3-59 while Alex Algoo had 2-43. Upper Corentyne responded with 135-7. Algoo scored 56 which contained three fours and two sixes while Burnette made 21; Junior Sinclair captured 4-39.
At Tuschen – West Berbice defeated West Demerara by 55 runs. West Berbice took first strike and managed 206-9. Opener Kevin Sinclair top scored with 49 which included one four and two sixes while Marvan Prashad made 29, Andrew Dutchin and Stephon Harris contributed 21 each and Gudakesh Motie 19.
Raymond Reifer picked up 3-41 while Mahendra Dhanpaul had 3-56. West Demerara lost two early wickets before Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Reifer consolidated in a third wicket stand to steady the chase fairly.
But following the demise of Reifer for 42, the rest of the batting crumbled and West Demerara were bowled out for 151 in 39.5 overs. Chanderpaul made 56 not out off 112 balls with three fours and three sixes while Reifer faced 57 balls and hit five fours and one six. Gudakesh Motie claimed 3-29 while Nigel Deodat had 3-27 and Leon Andrews 2-8.
At Lusignan – Georgetown beat East Coast Demerara by 181 runs. Leon Johnson and Jeremiah Scott struck half centuries to lead the visitors to 271-9, batting first. Following the early loss of Winston Forrester (00), Joshua Persaud and Raymond Perez put on 63 for the second wicket before Perez went for 44 with five fours and two sixes while Persaud struck three fours and one six in also scoring 44.
Johnson and Scott added 69 for the fifth wicket with Johnson striking five fours and three sixes in a top score of 68 while Scott made 58 including one four and two sixes. Dambuka Nygondo claimed 4-59 while Chanderpaul Ramraj had 2-60.
East Coast Demerara were bowled out for 90 in 30.3 overs, in reply. Alphius Bookie made 18 and Assif Singh 12; Ashmead Nedd picked up 3-18, Steven Sankar 3-26 and Johnson 2-4.
