Plans are ongoing for the commencement of the inaugural Dragon Stout ‘Community Cup’ Futsal championship which will attract 16-teams, so says, Jamal Baird, Dragon Stout Brand Manager.
A former football player and current sporting enthusiast, Baird informed that the four day elimination tournament is slated to commence on November 15th at the National Gymnasium; the teams being drawn from different environs will compete for over $500,000 in prizes. The grand finale is penciled for December 6th.
Among the teams that are expected to feature in the maiden championship include Sparta Boss, Gold is Money, Leopold Street, Bent Street, Tiger Bay, Albouystown, Melanie-B, Showstoppers, North East La Penitence and Back Circle. Baird stated that the overall objective of the tournament is to align the emerging brand with the respected and renowned grassroots movement.
“Ansa McAl is pleased to be associated with yet another sporting event specifically football at the grassroot level. Having been a former player (Georgetown Call-up) and a proud product of the ghetto that was given a chance, I am elated to stage the inaugural Community Cup under the prestige Dragon Stout brand which is being aligned and positioned to be a grassroots flag bearer.”
He revealed, “The primary stimulus for staging this football event is to highlight and indicate dragon stout’s intended support for sports at the grassroot and community levels, hence there was no hesitation since it’s aligned with the brand’s vision, which is to engage in community driven initiatives. This is an alliance or partnership that I envision will continue for the foreseeable future.”
Baird further affirmed, “Given that it is a community based initiative, it gives the urban community a chance to be seen and heard while having fun in a competitive but friendly environment.”
