A teen who escaped from the New Opportunity Corps (NOC) in 2018 and who is well known to the authorities, has been jailed after he was nabbed while escaping with a stolen motor cycle.
Marlon Vossey, called “Bud”, 18, unemployed and of Lot 31 No 5 Village, West Coast, Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh in the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court on a charge of Simple Larceny.
He was on trial for stealing motor cycle CJ 8936, owned by Safraaz Fidel, a labourer of Waterloo Bath, West Coast, Berbice, between April 29 and April 30, last.
According to Prosecutor Woman Police Corporal Racquel Mars, the man parked his motorcycle under his house about 22:00hrs on April 29 last and went to bed.
About 03:00hrs he got up to use the urinal and on checking discovered his bike missing. He immediately reported the matter to the Fort Wellington Police Station and an all stations message was sent out.
Vossey who is a well-known kleptomaniac was intercept by police on patrol at the Cove and John Police Station, East Coast Demerara whilst proceeding to Georgetown. He was arrested and handed over to the police at Fort Wellington where he was charged.
He was found guilty and sentenced to forty months in jail.
Vossey was among four who were arrested and charged after committing a series of crimes in the West Berbice area.
They were charged with several counts of robbery under arms, break and enter and larceny and simple larceny.
Vossey was the mastermind and had invited the others to the area. The others were from Plaisance and Sophia.
The men after committing the acts were hiding out for some time in the area. They were nabbed on their way to Georgetown when police received a report of a vehicle using a back street during the wee hours to escape.
A number of items suspected to be stolen or illegally obtained were found in the vehicle.
Vossey was among 13 juveniles who had escaped from the NOC back in September 2018. He reportedly escaped from the NOC on three separate occasions.
