Limacol football tournament Pele & Dynamics draw, Riddim Squad win on Thursday

Match day two of the second round of group matches in the fourth annual Limacol football tournament kicked off over an hour late on Thursday evening at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground on Carifesta Avenue. Two matches were scheduled for the night and first and second games were reduced to 30 minutes and 40 minutes per half respectively, instead of the full 90-minute game.

The opening match between Pele FC of Georgetown and Dynamics FC of the East Coast of Demerara was a six-goal affair that finished 3-all but the match blew off at 20:11hrs instead of 19:00hrs and the delay was majorly due to ground not being visibly marked. The officials informed the organisers that they will not be officiating unless the ground has been marked and after the shoddy job was completed, that match was reduced to 30 minutes per half.
Julius Hamilton banged in a hat-trick with his goals coming in the fourth, 37th and 51st minutes of the match for Dynamics that would have been disappointed to lose the match which they were leading 3-1 before goals by Mark Jhalu (54th) and Akosie Jarvis (58th) earned a vital point for Pele FC. Dorwin George scored a penalty in the 18th to give Pele FC their first equalising strike of the night.
In the feature match, Riddim Squad thumped Pouderoyen FC 3-0 after coach of the losing side; Travis Bess, had protested the officials’ decision of allotting the game only 35 minutes per half, that match’s time was increased to 80 minutes.
Kevin Gordon bagged a brace in the 10th and 53rd minutes, while Michael Charles ensured that the winners had a healthy 2-0 lead at the end of the first half with a goal in the 24th minute.
The tournament continues tonight with another double header in the group round-robin stage. Scheduled for 19:00hrs, Camptown are set to clash with Black Pearl in the first match, while the rampant Conquerors U-20 will match skills with GFC, who lost their first group match, at 21:00hrs.
There are four groups of four teams contesting the group round-robin stage, the top two sides in each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The winners of this edition will pocket $400,000, second $200,000, third $100,000 and the losers of the third place playoff will walk away with $50,000. (Calvin Chapman)
