GFF President Wayne Forde will deliver feature remarks at the launch following the march-past of the competing teams before they get into action.
The tournament has been keenly contested in the previous three years and the EBFA expects the competition among the future stars of Guyana will be even more intense this time around. The association has invited two non-EBFA teams to compete, Riddim Squad, a Mocha based team and Vurlon Mills Football Academy which is based in the city.
They will be coming up against ten (10) EBFA teams, Mocha Champs, Diamond United, Samatta Point/Kaneville, Swan Football Club, Agricola Red Triangle, Grove Hi Tech, Kuru Kururu Warriors, Herstelling Raiders and Friendship All Stars.
There will be two groups of six teams each and after round-robin play, the top two from each will advance to the semi finals with the respective winners contesting the final, while the losers will play in the third/fourth place encounter.
Last year’s competition was so intense that the champions, Timehri Panthers won by a single point (30) ahead of Grove Hi Tech, the latter team being the only team not to lose a match in their 11 encounters; Timehri lost one match. Agricola ended third with Swan FC fourth.
Once again the tournament would be played with branded size 4 balls carrying the EBFA logo, while each team would again receive branded jerseys, each team a different colour. Each player would also receive a knapsack bearing the association logo.
Each player from the first and second placed teams will each receive a replica trophy while the third and fourth placed teams would receive medals. Plaques would be presented to the Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper, Highest Goal Scorer, Most Promising Player, Most Disciplined Player and the Best Coach.
Proceedings today will get underway at 10:00hrs followed by six matches as follows:
