Urgent help is needed to repair City Hall
DEAR EDITOR,
The Georgetown City Hall building that is located on the corner of Regent Street and Avenue of the Republic in Georgetown, Guyana is in very poor shape at this point of time. A building that was once described as the most handsome structure in Georgetown was built in the year 1889 and officially opened on the 1st July, 1889 with over 8000 visitors passing through that building on that day. The architectural designed built in timber has three floors and a rectangular shape, with the tower – one being the most notable features.
Today, to repair the building is not worth it. The Mayor, Councillors and more so, the Inspectors of the Engineering Department, must be ashamed of themselves. Urgent help is needed from all stakeholders, local and international.
