Guyana Rush Saints male team and Paiwomak Warriors females are the respective champions of the Rupununi Football Association (RFA) championships which concluded recently.
Playing at the Guyana Rush Saints FC ground, Guyana Rush Saints FC battled Paiwomak Warriors FC and won the finals 3 goals to 1.
In the Female action, Paiwomak Warriors FC beat Flash FC in an exciting match from start to finish. Both teams were tied with 1 goal each and in the extra time given, Paiwomak Warriors were able to come out 3-2 winners for the title after an intense contest.
In the 3rd place playoff among the females – Strikers FC out of Massara kept Guyana Rush Saints FC at bay to hold out for a 1-0 triumph to take the third spot.
The male third place between Harpies FC and Titans FC resulted in the sides going to full time with a 2-2 locked scoreline. Extra time was used to separate them and this period produced two more goals, one to each team to keep the score cemented at 3-3. Penalty kicks had to be employed as per tournament rules and Titans FC emerged victorious 3 goals to nil to take the 3rd place.
