3-year-old is the mother-in-law of Grace Edwards, whose intervention has taken her one step closer to obtaining birth certificates for herself and several family members.
According to Grace Edwards, she decided to attend the ‘Government Comes To You Outreach’, at Damon Square, Anna Regina, Essequibo, with other Capoey family members.
The 43-year-old self-employed woman was able to meet Ministry of Citizenship officials for assistance and also managed to have her relatives secure their much-needed documentation, according to a government release. She said the long wait was over.
We put our effort to come, and we got through with everything… We have been trying to get these things [birth certificates] sorted out for a long time. It was more than 26 years we’ve been trying to get these, and you know it is important.”
Grace’s mother-in-law, her brothers-in-law, 66-year-old Joseph Francis and 57-year-old Paul Conyers were provided with the relevant documentation to uplift their birth certificates, which will be processed within a month. For her brothers-in-law, the documentation was critically needed, especially to uplift their pensions.
Edwards welcomed the outreach. “It is very good. It will benefit a lot of Indigenous people in communities here. The Edwards family was among hundreds of others attending the event.
