May 20, 2019 Letters
DEAR EDITOR,
I refer to the response given by Mr. Orson Ferguson dated May 14, 2019 in providing several payment options to avoid the long lines when paying your GTT bills.
I am a Blaze customer and have both a postpaid and a prepaid number.
It is well known that the 10th of every month is the due date to pay, at least for me, my Blaze and postpaid account amounts that are due. The due date is based on the fact that the invoice for both accounts is dated on the 1st of the month. So, my Blaze bill invoice dated May 1 which reflects the service used for the preceding month is due to be paid on May 10th; that is a ten-day period I have to pay.
But do I really have a ten-day payment period? No! I use the GTT website to access my Blaze bill and the option *100*2*8# to check the amount due for the postpaid number. And none of these are ever available before the 4th of the month. So, for the month of May as with all of the preceding months, I viewed my Blaze invoice dated May 1st on May 4th and similarly viewed the amount due for the post-paid number on May 4. Hence, I had only 6 days to pay both outstanding amounts and May 5 was a National Holiday.
I would use MMG to pay these amounts due but I would only put into my MMG account the amount due and this I can only do between the 5th to the 10th of every month. During this period, the lines are long at GTT outlets to buy MMG.
In most cases also, when buying from an agent, they would not have the total amount of MMG requested hence you have to visit another agent and then another agent until one may have the total amount requested.
So, for these 5 days, it is stressful in getting your GTT bills paid.
And it will get more stressful as there is an interesting thing to note. Last Friday (due date for payment), after visiting two agents, I was able to purchase MMG and return to my place of employment where I had intended to complete payment of my two accounts via MMG and to my shock and surprise, the MMG app refused to open because the internet was provided by E-governance. It was only until I got home, payments were done via the MMG app. So, it seems using the MMG app is not applicable in certain environments which will put much more strain on persons in paying their GTT bills on time.
Then there is the GTT app. I downloaded it and used my prepaid phone number to set it up and when I tried to add my Blaze account; there is a restriction to do so.
