The Guyana Tourism Association [GTA] is now one step closer to developing tourism within the Essequibo Circuit, following the recent introduction of the Regional Destination Management Organization [RDMO].
The programme was introduced to Essequibians last Wednesday during a meeting hosted in the Regional Democratic Council Boardroom.
As outlined in the background of the project, the Essequibo Region is home to amazing wildlife, rich cultural heritage, pristine coastline and friendly locals, which makes it an excellent candidate for tourism development.
It was noted, however, that a key factor in a successful destination development depends not only on natural attractions, but also on a functioning RDMO. In developing the RDMO within the Essequibo Circuit, the GTA has partnered with Target Euro. Development of the RDMO will include strategy, action plan, business model, brand and micro-website.
The specific goals of the project last Wednesday, included the development of a detailed situational analysis, of the current tourism situation in the Essequibo circuit.
A tourism product inventory, which included the primary and secondary products that can be developed, for the Essequibo Circuit, is also an aspect of the project.
The project also allowed participants to build on existing stakeholder collaboration within Region Seven and Region Two, thus linking the lower Essequibo and Essequibo Coast. These linkages, it is believe will create markets for the promotion and commercialization of the Essequibo circuit.
