DEAR EDITOR,
The incredibly low turnout for the Saturday discussion on the “constitutional crisis” must have the RISE organisers deflated.
It exposed the truth that the self righteous sound and fury of a handful of self anointed guardians of the constitution is being amplified by social media and news outlets. There is no mass concern.
The reason for the utter lack of interest has its roots in the fact that the crisis was triggered by what was a devious act by Bharrat Jagdeo. As such the outcome is not considered morally or politically legitimate in the eyes of most Guyanese and indeed perhaps in private by some PPP/C supporters.
There was no economic or political crisis requiring such a no confidence motion in the first place. It was and remains a naked power grab.
And it’s worth noting all this was planned at a time when the President was and still is fighting a battle with cancer. Where is the humanity? That is not Guyanese.
Yours Sincerely
Albert Russell
