Police are trying to track down a gang that seems to be targeting West Coast and West Bank Demerara communities.
The same gang is believed to have struck yet again at around noon on Saturday, terrorizing staffers and customers inside a Chinese variety store at Evergreen Street, West Bank Demerara.
At around 12: 55 hrs, four men brandishing knives and cutlasses stormed the People’s Choice Chinese Variety at Evergreen Street, West Bank Demerara.
The store was said to be packed with midday shoppers getting weekend supplies..
Eyewitness related that the men were apparently observing their target for a while.
Sources said that the men shouting loud obscenities and threats held shoppers and employees at knife point demanding cash, jewellery, cell phones, and other valuables. Some shoppers who resisted were reportedly beaten. The Chinese nationals were reportedly also beaten and forced to hand over cash, and other valuables.
The robbers reportedly made off with over $1M in cash, and other valuables. The matter was reported to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station.
