After years of waiting, Linden receives approvals for TV station

The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Guyana National Broadcasting Authority, Leslie Sobers, yesterday issued a letter of approval for Linden Broadcasting Network to be the recipient of a television broadcasting licence in the Secondary Zone.
The network has satisfied all the necessary requirements of the GNBA.
The approval letter was received by Chairman of the Linden Broadcasting Network, Rennis Morian.

GNBA’s Chairman, Leslie Sobers and Legal Advisor and Assistant to the Minister of State, Geeta Chandan-Edmond hand over the letter to Jermaine Figueira.

Also present at the ceremony was Legal Advisor and Assistant to the Minister of State, Geeta Chandan-Edmond, and Jermaine Figueira, a representative of the town.
“The authority hereby extends congratulations to the Linden Broadcasting Network and expresses optimism that this broadcasting entity will assist in the further development of broadcasting in Guyana, particularly in the mining town of Linden.”
Linden has been saddled with receiving a daily dose of what the state television, National Communications Network, had to offer because of a feed.

Other more well-to-do residents of Linden, in Region Ten, have been able to access cable television.
The town has been complaining for years for being limited in its news media access, including a variety of the television.
Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, over the weekend announced that the GNBA has approved a television licence for Linden, Upper Demerara-Berbice (Region Ten).
The Minister made the announcement at the Flag Raising ceremony, held at the Linden minibus park, to mark Guyana’s 49th Republic anniversary.
“This is historical for you, Linden. Things are happening here in Linden, and once we have worked out those issues, you can be assured that you will receive the licence within one week,” he told the large gathering.
