force, the situation at the Central Police Station, New Amsterdam, continues to be dire.
Residents of New Amsterdam now want answers.
The Central Police Station which was in a reasonable state at the time it was torn down under the then PPP administration, was to be rebuilt from scratch. Now, more than six years later and counting the station which is the main operating centre for the ‘B’ Division is still unfinished. Although work is ongoing at the moment in the compound and fence no one knows when it will be completed.
In the meanwhile the Police are forced to work in unfriendly conditions from a small office in front of the compound which was built to facilitate court staff.
It is mystifying how police officers stationed at the CPS are able to function under such demoralizing and appalling conditions for such a long time. The Criminal Investigation Department is housed in a house next door that was destined for the Station Sergeant. It is a shame to subject the ranks to work under such conditions.
It is not certain where the funds are coming from for the current works, since no one seems to be willing to say anything and residents and ranks alike are getting worried.
Prisoners bound for the Central Police Station are forced to be transported to far off locations like Reliance, Sisters and Albion Police Stations to be accommodated.
