The Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) on Sunday 23rd December, 2018, hosted its long awaited Annual General Meeting at the Riverton Hotel in Corriverton. Twenty nine delegates representing twenty four Clubs in the Sub-Association were present at the historic meeting. Management Committee for several years, was elected unopposed as President, while his other Executives were also elected unopposed. The others elected were former National Player Sydney Jackman as Vice President, Lakeram Latchman as Secretary, Deodat Persaud Thakurdeen as Treasurer and Lawrence Mentis as Asst Secretary/Treasurer. The election was conducted by Neil Rudder, President of the Mount Sinai Cricket Club and a retired Senior Public Servant in an open and transparent atmosphere.
President of the Berbice Cricket Board Hilbert Foster congratulated the elected officials and urged them to work along with every Club in the Sub-Association, even those who might be critical of them. Real Cricket Development, the Berbice Cricket Board President stated, would only be achieved when administrators are visionary, honest and hard working. Foster committed himself to raise over $1M worth of sponsorship in 2019 to host at least 6 tournaments, while assisting clubs with balls and white shirts during the year.
D’Andrade in his acceptance speech, pledged to work even harder to lift the standard of cricket in the Upper Corentyne area. Priority would be placed on organising more coaching programmes and hosting junior cricket in the area. Vice President Sydney Jackman provided a comprehensive report on the activities of the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association in 2018, which was approved by delegates present along with a detailed financial report. Among the tournaments played in the Sub-Association were Inter-Primary School, Inter-Secondary School Under-19, Inter-Club Under-19, Ramnaresh Sarwan 40-Overs, Magic Moments 20/20, while Clubs were actively involved in Berbice Cricket Board organised Tournaments at the Under-15, Under-17, Under-19, Under-21, Second and First Division levels. The elected body would meet shortly to appoint other executives and committees.
