An incisive spell of off-spin bowling from Kumar Bishundial handed Lusignan A the East Coast Cricket Committee/SPR 40-over title yesterday at the Enmore Community Centre ground.
Bishundial proved almost unplayable as he picked up six wickets for six runs off 6.3 overs, four of which were maidens, to bowl his team to a 49-run win over Enterprise A in the final.
Set 169 for victory, Bishundial who was named man-of-the-match, trapped opener Raja Pooran lbw for one and uprooted the stumps of Pradesh Balkishun (00) to reduced Enterprise A to 5-2. Bhaskar Yadram struck three fours before he was bowled by Bishundial for 13, while Kamesh Yadram was dismissed for 17 off 38 balls, leaving the score at 45-4.
Bishundial continued to maintain a steady line and along with the other bowlers, continued to make life difficult for the batsmen on a slow track. Parmamand Dindyal faced 42 balls and scored 26 before he was bowled by Vishnu Ramjeet, while Dave Persaud hit one four and a six before he departed for 25 off 28 balls. Rohan Mangal made 13 as Steve Ramdass supported Bishundial with 2-34; Enterprise A were bowled out for 119 in 36.2 overs.
Earlier, Lusignan A loss nine wickets off their allotted 40-over after they were inserted. Gavin Boodwah and Ramdass added 36 for the opening stand before Boodwah was removed by Dave Persaud for 17. Persaud then accounted for Ramdass (14) before teenager Robin Williams and Krishna Deosarran put on 52 for the third wicket to steady the innings somewhat. Deosarran made 23 off 37 balls, while Williams struck 35 with one six off 63 balls before they were both removed by Pradesh Balkishun. Vishnu Ramjeet hit two fours and one six in a top score of 37 while Shazam Ali contributed 11 as Dave Persaud finished with 2-17 and Balkishun 2-18.
