Christmas is in the air. A number of individuals and organisations have been doing their part to ensure that season is bright. Not to be left out of the activities associated with this joyous time of
year is Creating Positive Environment Through Safer [C-PETS] communities.
The gorup has the role of being the public face of the Police Force ‘D’ Division.
C-PETS, which has Pastor Patrick Miggins as its President, was established a few years ago with the intent of serving as the softer side of the Division thereby helping to improve relations with the public.
“Some issues people feel better (about) addressing us rather than addressing police [ranks] so in such cases, we filter the information to the police. They will take the needed course of action,” said C-PETS Vice President, Susanna Duncan.
For this season, C-PETS has been involved in activities including a Christmas walk-about to engage the public to raise awareness of the security plans of the Division for the holidays. Walkabouts were held at Parika and Vreed en Hoop.
However, what can easily be classified as the most outstanding activity this season was the inaugural Christmas tree light-up that the group collaborated with ‘D’ Division to host. The light-up, which was done last week Wednesday was held at the Division’s Leonora, West Coast Demerara headquarters.
The simple yet significant programme started with a prayer. It was complemented by singing and the reciting of poems, which were done by police ranks and Scout members. The event included musical renditions from the Guyana Police Force’s Steel Orchestra.
It also saw representatives of both C-PETS and ‘D’ Division delivering remarks in the persons of Pastor Victor Grimmond and Deputy Commander, Dion Moore, respectively.
A feature address was also delivered by Divisional Commander, Edmond Cooper.
