What is the role of the opposition? Is it to derail the progress of the nation, or is it to see that those in government move the nation forward for the betterment of the people? Something seems to be very wrong with the people’s representatives in the parliament of Guyana.
When the politics of the day becomes a personal vendetta between government ministers and opposition members, there must be a public outcry from those they were elected to serve.
Honorary members of the House must be reminded that their election into office was on the pretext that they were best suited to take the nation forward. Recent acts of the opposition in Guyana to hinder the passing of a progressive budget and doing so using petty political maneuvers, is definitely not in the interest of the nation and people they serve.
Guyana must understand that at this age she must come to maturity. Our politicians must be wise and learn from leaders like Nelson Mandela, and Martin Luther King Jr. No nation or people will stand if that nation or people continue to promote divisions among themselves.
As a nation, we now stand on the trestle of the greatest opportunity presented to us for national prosperity. Such an opportunity must not be squandered by childish, racist political gimmicks. We have a nation to mould, and must do so not being selfish ,but putting first our children, and all our people.
Those that are guilty of converting state assets to their own personal use, must also return same, or pay its full cost. Leaders of the people must hold themselves to high moral and ethical standards. There must be no double standards. Our criminal justice systems must not appear to favour some, and be cruel to others.
Ladies and gentlemen of the great House, let not history hold you responsible for failing this great nation and people. Take stock of your actions; our children, and neighbours are watching. We must come together now and build this nation, we must unite our people, or those that look with envious eyes may have thoughts of their own.
Finally, I remind all that Guyana belongs to all Guyanese, and those who represent the people must do so with this in mind. Those seeking to divide must step down now, and allow others with love for this nation and its people to take their place.
Apostle Adrian Wade
