Jesus said these hard words, as he hung on the cross, “My father why has though forsaken me?” The answer to it was that in His death, there was a greater victory, He will conquer death!
Some black brothers today ask, God why did you not intervene when our ancestors were sold into slavery? Is it because in their suffering, that they too won a great victory; one that cause us to conquer the hate of our oppressors, and prove to all that a man is not to be judged by the colour of his skin.
Someone once said, “From slave ship to championship. From hardship to scholarship. From trash house to the white house.”
Is God showing us as a people that we are and can be anything we want to be?
You may not see it this way, but there is a story told about a Hebrew boy called Joseph ,and his father, who loved him so much , that he gave him a coat of many colours. This coat became the object of the envy of his own brothers; they threw him into a pit. He was also sold into slavery, and wrongfully put into prison, like many of the young ones in America today, but that boy did not get bitter at God, he got better with God and he became the Prime Minister of Egypt.
Are we Joseph? Hated for our covering by others, put into prisons by some, and even killed, but our story continues. We continue to give to the world witty inventions, entertain them with our super stars, in music and sports, and many of our intellectual sit alongside the best, and yes, I can go on.
Is the words of our sister Maya Angelou and I quote, “You may write me down in history with your bitter, twisted lies. You may trod me in the dirt, but, still like dust, I’ll rise,” the true anthem of our people. Are we like Jesus, also chosen for the resurrection?
How important it is for us to know who we are. For only then will we be able to fulfill Destiny. Like Joseph, like Jesus, and like the poet says, then we will we be able take our place at the top.
Yours faithfully,
Apostle Adrian Wade
