The Fifth annual 11-years and under Pee Wee football tournament for Primary School Girls, being sponsored by the Ansa McAl through their Smalta brand is set to kick off this afternoon at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground on Carifesta Avenue from 13:00hrs with six games.
Reigning champions South Ruimveldt will begin their defence against Genesis Harmony Primary School in the one of the first two matches. The venue will see be split into two to allow matches concurrently, the other opening game features St. Stephen’s Primary matching skills with Mae’s.
Last year’s losing finalists and 2016 winners, St. Angela’s Primary will not be a part of the 12-team tournament that will follow a group knock-out format. The twelve teams have been divided into three groups of four which are listed below.
Group A – St Stephen, Genesis Harmony, Mae’s and South Ruimveldt. Group B – St. Pius, St Margret’s, Smith Memorial and North Georgetown. Group C – FE Pollard, West Ruimveldt, Enterprise and Tucville.
Two weeks prior to today’s play, the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Technical staff held training sessions with the young ladies in a bid to help fine tune their skills. The winning school will receive $200,000, second $100,000, third $75,000 and fourth $50,000, all towards a project of the school’s choice.
