Days after a 48-year-old wheelchair user, Arlene Moses, was burnt alive in her Freeman Street, East La Penitence home, the fire department suspects that the blaze, which saw the one storey wooden house being flattened was accidently ignited while the woman was cooking.
Fire Chief, Marlon Gentle, in an interview with this publication said that he believed that the fire started in the now dead woman, Arlene Moses’s kitchen while she was cooking.
The Fire Chief believed that the woman was cooking on her two kerosene stoves and due to her limited mobility, she collided with the stoves, knocking them to the floor and setting the house on fire.
According to previous reports, neighbours of the woman’s Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown, home claim that they saw smoke billowing from the building at around 13:15 hrs.
It was initially believed that the woman was in the south eastern section of her house closest to her grocery shop.
Persons gathered at the scene were unable to disclose much information about the woman, as she was a woman of few friends.
She woman lived with her nephew but was often visited by a male friend and her father,
The building smouldered for approximately two hours. When the embers cooled, the firemen located the woman’s corpse.
